Funny Stories

I was at a workshop all day yesterday. I learned so much about math and how to teach my students. I had so much fun. this is a three part workshop and I can't wait until the next part next month. So my roommate subbed for me yesterday. I am so grateful she would do it. Well, today one of my boys asked, "Is your roommate going to sub for you again?" Then another responded, "He thinks she is hot!" Funny. They make me laugh.
The other story, one boy fell in the mud during lunch today. He went to the office and everyone of course was telling me what happened. My boy who is African-American (the only one in the class) said, "He fell in the mud and now he looks like me, just on the right side." I just laughed it was the funniest thing I had heard all day.
The last story not really funny but good. One girl hasn't been doing any work. She has been hiding the fact from her mom and I guess yesterday mom found out. She called me this morning. I have been meaning to talk to the girl, but she was absent then I was absent, so it just never happened. I told the mom I would take care of it and make sure things were being taken care of etc. So, today during recess I talked to this girl. I told her I understood what was going on, and shared about when I was her age and the fact I didn't turn in any homework. I asked her if there were any activities she would want to do in Jr. High and High School. She said she didn't know. I told her if there were she wouldn't be able to participate in them if she continues this pattern. She just looked at me amazed. I told her when I was in high school I wanted to be an officer, but because I got in the habit of not turning in my work I never had the GPA to do it. Then I told her she could do it. If she needed anything I was there to help her. After school I spent about fifteen minutes helping her get organized. I need to make sure I stay on top of this one for a while. I gave her 2 weeks to get the missing work in. Hopefully I can help her be ready. Jr. high teachers aren't going to be this understanding. I am also hoping by the end of the quarter she won't need me.
All I can do is keep praying that somewhere I can be of use to my students and they appreciate it.
