Random Thoughts

I don't have anything significant to write today so I just thought I would lead you down a path of randomness:
1. I am going on an overnighter with 40 sixth graders tomorrow. We will be cross-country skiing. I am excited. Yet, not.
2. I have the best roommates ever. I don't go a day without laughing my head off.
3. We are in the process of a new grade book system at school. I like it. It is more user friendly (thanks to the fact that the school district developed it and the teachers are giving input) and fun to use.
4. I'm writing a poem for one of my roommates. I have the best opening line. I just can't really fill in the rest. How do you top, "Oh! Joyous rapture! In the bathroom."? The opening is really just too perfect. I can't get the rest to meet up to it.
5. I got some test scores from last year that I really wish I would have had earlier. However, now that I have them, I was happy to see my kids scored above the average in my school, and the state.
6. I now have to use these scores to help my class write better this year and improve.
7. It is amazing to me that people have so many different definitions of words. I had a student that kept telling me I was "yelling" at him. When I felt I have done no such thing. Then I asked him what "yelling" meant to him. And he told me that when I get firm I am yelling. I think it is when I get in a face. I have "yelled" at a student before and it was defiantly not to him.
8. I have been stalking some other teacher's blogs and I have found that most teachers don't get support. And I am more and more grateful that I am at the school I am at. Even though I have a tough time with my team, they still try to help me. I have a principal who is willing to spend 30 minutes helping me resolve student issues. I have a mentor who is amazing. And parents who are willing to help and who all show up to PTC.
9. I got cute post-it notes from one of my fellow teachers for Christmas. I love them.
10. I am still in LOVE with anything Jane Austen. I got my three books I ordered from Amazon and I have read two of them in three days. I know it could have been 3 in 3. But I decided I should go to institute and bed instead of reading last night. I can't get enough. I need more. I don't care what form of media it is I just need more.
